GWM’s Tank 300 is getting an update, if these sneaky spy shots are to be believed.

The images provide a bit of a crystal ball gaze into the new cabin tech and styling that may make it to Australia in the near future. CarsGuide has contacted GWM's local arm and has yet to hear back.

The images of the new Tank 300 surfaced on Chinese auto website Autohome overnight revealing changes to the cabin and a partially camouflaged exterior.

It’s the interior which has made us do a double take with no sign of a gear shifter on the centre console where it’s currently located. A closer look at the pictures shows the shifter now positioned on the steering column.

Another big cabin change is the replacement of the 12.3-inch media display with a much larger screen that’s not seamlessly connected to the driver instrument display as it is currently.

Exterior changes are more challenging to decipher in these images with the Tank 300’s propositions and styling appearing unchanged, The camouflaging on the doors could just be a decoy because as far as we can tell there’s nothing that looks different about them.

The changes will most likely be restricted to cosmetic ones with the new Tank 300 expected to use the same powertrains already on offer in Australia.

The current Australia Tanks 300 line-up is offered with a choice of 162kW/380Nm 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 258kW/648Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol-electric hybrid.

All variants are capable off-roaders with 4WD and a ladder frame chassis.

The Tank 300 is due for an update having arrived in Australia more than a year ago.

A drive-away price of $46,990 for the entry grade Lux in the Tank 300 range makes it an appealing alternative to rivals such as the Jeep Wrangler or larger off-roaders such as the Ford Everest and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

Along with the 12.3-inch media screen standard features on the current Lux grade include, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a nine-speaker stereo, air-conditioning, 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails and proximity unlocking.

Out of boredom, she learnt to drive at 14 on her parents’ bush property in what can only be described as a heavily modified Toyota LandCruiser.   At the age of 17 she was told she couldn’t have a V8 Holden ute by her mother, which led to Laura and her father laying in the driveway for three months building a six-cylinder ute with more horsepower than a V8.   Since then she’s only ever owned V8s, with a Ford Falcon XW and a Holden Monaro CV8 part of her collection over the years.  Laura has authored two books and worked as a journalist writing about science, cars, music, TV, cars, art, food, cars, finance, architecture, theatre, cars, film and cars.
