Volkswagen has confirmed the arrival of two new sub-$70,000 grades to complete its ID.4 and ID.5 line-ups.

Starting at $62,990 before on-road costs for the new ID.5 Pro, it now serves as the entry-grade to the ID.5 Pro GTX, whereas the new ID.4 GTX ($69,990) now serves as the headliner to the ID.4 Pro.

The ID.5 Pro brings a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive option to what was an exclusively dual-motor, all-wheel-drive ID.5 line-up, while the ID.4 GTX brings the inverse to the ID.4 line-up.

Focusing on the ID.5 Pro, power is down from 250kW to 210kW, while the battery size is a fraction smaller at 82kWh compared to the GTX’s 84kWh unit.

The weight reduction of a single electric motor and lighter battery does mean that driving range increases to 543km under the WLTP cycle, up from 522km on the GTX. Less power means it takes 1.3 seconds longer to sprint from 0-100km/h at 6.7 seconds.

The ID.5 Pro forfeits the GTX’s sport styling, which includes GTX badging, embossed sports seats with red highlights and stitching, a GTX steering wheel and a 12-speaker Harmon/Kardon premium speaker system.

It maintains matrix LED headlamps with adaptive high beams, keyless entry, a power tailgate, a panoramic sunroof with an electric blind, microfibre upholstery, power adjustable front seats with memory, heating and massage functions, a heated steering wheel, tri-zone climate control, a 12.9-inch multimedia display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 360-degree camera.

The ID.4 GTX carries the aforementioned features, while also restoring the GTX sports packaging.

It adds the same front-axle-mounted electric motor omitted from the ID.5 Pro for all-wheel-drive performance and a bumper power output of 250kW. Driving range subsequently falls to 511km under the WLTP cycle, down from the ID.4 Pro’s 544km.

All four variants of the ID.4 and ID.5 come equipped with on-board Mode 2 and Mode 3 chargers, which Volkswagen Australia said are valued at $1000. Charging rates across the model ranges are at a maximum of 11kW for AC and 175kW for DC.

Both models are covered by Volkswagen Group’s eight-year/160,000km battery warranty and free battery health checks.

Volkswagen has sold 125 examples of the smaller, more traditionally SUV-styled ID.4 and 71 examples of the larger ID.5 fastback as of April, following both model's combined launches in Australia this February.

The new ID.4 GTX and ID.5 Pro are available to order from Volkswagen dealerships across the country from today.
