A long-range version of the Geely EX5 has leaked in homologation filings in its home market of China less than three months after the budget electric model launched in Australia.
Revealed with a 68.3kWh battery pack, up from the current versionās 60kWh unit, CarNewsChina claims the EX5 will now have a peak range of 610km under the more lenient CLTC cycle. Currently, the EX5 tops 430km in Australia under the benchmark WLTP. Expect it to do closer to 500km via the WLTP test.
It is unclear for now when the long-range model will launch in China or whether it is likely to come to Australia to keep up the fight against the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, Leapmotor C10 and XPeng G6.
A Geely spokesperson said to CarsGuide, "while we cannot confirm any additions to the Geely Auto Australia range at this time, we are continuously monitoring market trends and consumer behaviours to ensure our product range aligns with the preferences of local customers."
Aside from the new battery pack, no changes have been made to the rest of the EX5ās powertrain nor its design.
It will continue to sport a single electric motor mounted to the front axle that delivers a peak output of 160kW/320Nm to the front wheels as standard.
The current range starts at $40,990 before on-road costs for the base Complete, which packs 18-inch alloys, privacy glass, full LED exterior lighting with auto high-beam, rear parking sensors and roof rails.
