The makeover of the MX-5 will see it through to the next generation, expected to arrive later this year or early in 2013.
The facelift gives the MX-5 new alloy wheels and tweaks around the nose, with more aggressive styling to the front bumper, updated foglights and new lip spoiler. The rear gets a new bumper design, and there are extra silver or black accents to differentiate soft and hardtop.
Subtle changes to the exterior give this 2013 model a more aggressive look, while inside new color options add a touch of refinement. A new pedestrian safety system raises the end of the bonnet on impact to reduce head injury.
Mazda has revised the throttle response, but there's no change to the engine or transmission.
It will still get the high revving 2.0-litre DOHC petrol engine that produces 118kW of power and 188Nm of torque, together with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic with paddle shifts.
