Omoda Jaecoo has revealed pricing and specification for its range-topping Omoda 9 plug-in hybrid large SUV.
Arriving in a single highly-specified Virtue variant, the Omoda 9 wears a price-tag of $61,990 before on-road costs.
It is a plug-in hybrid-only alternative to the Jaecoo J8, which is a more conventional-shaped petrol-powered SUV. The Omoda 9 is similarly-sized to its Jaecoo equivalent, measuring in at 4775mm long and 1920mm wide.
Using the Super Hybrid System (SHS) from its Chery parent company, the Omoda 9 has a massive 34kWh battery pack, which allows it a claimed driving range on electric mode of up to 169km (to the more lenient NEDC cycle). When combined with the petrol engine, Omoda Jaecoo said the Omoda 9 has a driving range of up to 1100km.
Its all-wheel drive hybrid system pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with three electric motors (two in the front transaxle, and one on the rear axle) for a total claimed power output of 395kW, allowing a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of just 4.9 seconds.
The single Virtue trim level offers 20-inch alloy wheels, full LED exterior lighting, dual 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and multimedia panel, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, leather-appointed interior trim, an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, heating and ventilation for the front and rear outboard seats, ambient lighting, a built-in fragrance system, a 14-speaker Sony sound system, a head-up display, voice command, a 360-degree parking camera, a built-in dashcam, a panoramic opening sunroof with shade, and ambient interior lighting.
The Omoda 9 is capable of topping up its battery via a DC fast unit at up to 70kW, allowing a 30 - 80 per cent charge in 25 minutes.
The large SUV is covered by an eight-year/unlimited kilometre warranty for the car and battery, paired with eight-years of capped price servicing and roadside assistance.
It features the full array of the brand’s active safety suite, and has been awarded a maximum five-star EuroNCAP safety rating, which the brand is no doubt hoping will be rubber-stamped by ANCAP locally.
The Omoda 9 will arrive in customer hands next month. It is the first model from a re-booted Omoda marque under Chery’s umbrella of brands.
Previously Chery sold the C5 small SUV as the Omoda 5, however, it has since been rolled into the Chery marque, with Omoda being reserved for more premium offerings like this Omoda 9.
They are sold together with the also semi-premium Jaecoo brand, which currently sells the J7 mid-size SUV (in combustion and plug-in hybrid forms) and the J8 large SUV (in combustion form only).
Omoda and Jaecoo’s Chery parent is on a roll in Australia this year, up a massive 228.8 per cent until the end of June or a whopping 9828 registrations as it closes in on the top-10. Meanwhile, the Omoda Jaecoo division has registered just 690 units this year as it establishes itself from nothing.
