There are hints out of the US that an electric Honda CR-V might be around the corner.

The Japanese brand’s luxury offshoot, Acura, is reportedly prepping a mid-size electric SUV. This SUV will be a similar size to the Acura RDX and Honda CR-V and will be the first of the brand’s vehicles built in the company’s new e:architecture according to industry journal Automotive News.

Styling for the Acura EV could be previewed by the recent Performance EV Concept revealed at Monterey Car Week.

The current Honda Prologue on sale in North America is a similar size but is built on a General Motors platform and a Honda badged version of the mooted Acura electric SUV might be it's replacement.

Honda’s new e:architecture will underpin the 0 series, a set of new global EVs that are due to enter production by 2026.

Honda first showcased its 0 Series electric cars aspirations at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show.

It whipped the covers off two head turning concept cars dubbed the Saloon and Space-Hub, which preview a future electric sedan and people-mover.

It now appears a mid-size SUV will be the first EV cab off the rank.

Automotive News also reports this will be followed soon after by a larger seven-seat to rival the current Kia EV9 and coming Hyundai Ioniq 9.

Honda also revealed a pair of electric SUVs for the Chinese market earlier this year.

The P7 and S7 electric SUVs are due to go on sale in China at the end of this year but are not expected to be global models.

Honda says the P7 and S7 will be produced in rear- and all-wheel drive layouts.

Rear-wheel drive variants will use one electric motor and all-wheel drive examples will gain a second front-mounted motor.

Honda is yet to sell an electric car in Australia despite having several available in other markets, but the timing of the new EV lines up with the first Oz-bound model expected in 2026.

The Japanese brand sells an electric version of the HR-V small SUV, dubbed the e:Ny1 in China and Europe.

It also sold the cute, retro-styled Honda e, a tiny electric hatchback available in Europe and Japan but it has since been deleted from its line-up.
