After more ‘will they/won’t they’ speculation than Ross and Rachel in Friends, Hyundai has finally confirmed there will be a production version of the much-hyped N Vision 74.

The retro-futuristic concept car was present in a slideshow accompanying a launch schedule shown at Hyundai's 2024 CEO Investor Day — it’s the first time the brand has officially confirmed a production version of the Vision 74.

The Hyundai N Vision 74 is apparently set to launch by 2032 according to the slide, though a report from KoreanCarBlog says a limited run of 200 cars will enter production in 2026.

In a press release from Hyundai, the only reference to high performance models started with confirmation the Genesis GV60 Magma will lead the new charge into sports cars.

“Beginning with the GV60 Magma Concept revealed in New York last March, Hyundai Motor will open a new chapter of high-performance luxury by providing high-performance models that maximise quality and performance.

“The N brand will continue to expand its high-performance EVs, allowing the company to further enhance its strong competitiveness in core EV technology.”

In May last year, Hyundai officially said there were no plans to put the N Vision 74 into production after rumours of the car becoming a limited-run production model swelled within South Korean media.

“We are aware of media speculations on the potential commercial production of the N Vision 74 rolling lab development model,” Hyundai America’s Product PR Manager Derek Joyce told Carscoops at the time.

“However, we currently have no plan to put the model into commercial production.”

The N Vision 74 is reportedly already testing at the brand’s Namyang development centre, where the N brand has honed other now popular models like its petrol-powered i30 N, or the more recent Ioniq 5 N electric car.

The N Vision 74 will retain the hydrogen fuel cell powertrain basis the concept ran with, according to KoreanCarBlog, which will severely limit its real-world viability in the near future, though will apparently allow it to outperform cars from brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini with a 570kW output.

If you haven’t seen the N Vision 74 before but it looks a little familiar to you, that could be either because it looks a little like the DMC DeLorean, or because it was inspired by the 1974 Hyundai Pony just as the Ioniq 5 was.

It’s no coincidence that these cars all share the same styling cues, the Pony and the DeLorean were both penned by one of the world’s most revered car designers: Giorgetto Giugiaro.

Given Hyundai is yet to confirm specifications and details, the information coming out of Korean media is speculative at best so far, though numerous publications within Hyundai’s home nation have been close with reports so far.

Stay tuned.
