MG already confirmed it’s working on a ute, but before that arrives the company will unleash a wave of new models in 2025.
At least eight all-new models or variants are confirmed to be headed our way in 2025, including two new game-changing premium models from SAIC Motors luxury brand, IM Motors.
“Every major segment, we will cover… full-size SUV, ute, everything,” said MG Australia CEO, Peter Ciao. “And then, each segment, we won’t just have the product, we need to provide the best offer. Best offer includes [the] best price and good enough technology.”
The biggest newcomer, at least from a sales perspective, will be the petrol-powered variants of the recently launched ZS Hybrid+ small SUV.
These will almost certainly be more affordable than the hybrid, which starts at $33,990 for the Excite variant and costs $36,990 for the Essence, both drive-away.
Akshat Ahuja, MG Australia’s head of local product, wouldn’t confirm pricing, or if the brand will be able to have an option below $25,000 with the more advanced new model but indicated the ZS range would continue to be affordable for the price-led SUV shopper.
“When we look at the particular model, the variant line-up, we always try to aim for the entry cars as well, the price point cars that also provide good value,” he said.

"So you might see ZS, like what we have seen today, $36,990, but we'll also have petrol ZS that will sort of be around that price point. And we'll attract the buyers who would be wanting a price point car.”
Following that, MG will expand its other second-generation SUV, the bigger HS, with its own hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants. While local details haven’t been confirmed, in the UK market the HS plug-in hybrid has a new 24.7kWh battery that provides up to 120km of electric-only driving range. This would position it directly against fellow Chinese PHEV, the BYD Sealion 6.
Next up, both figuratively and literally, will be a new seven-seat SUV for the MG range, sitting above the ZS and HS. This will give the brand a rival to the likes of the Toyota Kluger and Hyundai Santa Fe for the first time.

While MG hasn’t given any details on this new model, it’s expected to be a restyled version of the SAIC-owned Roewe RX9. But MG Australia management indicated it would be called the QS, in keeping with its current SUV naming strategy.
The RX9 has a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that makes 178kW and 392Nm, but a hybrid is also likely given the current trend of the brand towards electrification.
Which segues us nicely into the other models coming our way in 2025, which will be all-electric.
Two models are expected to come from the IM Motors — a SAIC and Alibaba joint venture brand — catalogue that is pushing the limits of electric cars. The LS6 SUV is possible along with the groundbreaking L6 sedan, which boasts in excess of 1000km driving range in Lightyear and is the first production car to use semi-solid state battery technology.

They will wear MG badges and nameplates if they arrive, though, after the brand confirmed it is not targeting a sub-brand strategy in Australia.
MG will also introduce a replacement for the ZS EV as well as adding an electric alternative to the HS.
The smaller model has already been revealed as the ES5 in China, but it’s not confirmed yet if it will carry that badge locally. The mid-sizer will be the successor to the Marvel R, which we’ve already spotted in Australia undergoing testing on the Gold Coast.
The Marvel R was never built in right-hand drive but that’s clearly going to change for its second-generation, and it’s also unclear if the comic book name will remain as MG Australia executives were non-committal.
