Better than a new Kia Carnival? 2024 Lexus LM revealed, with luxury people mover confirmed for Australia

Three years after its original LM luxury people mover launched at the 2019 Auto Shanghai, Lexus has used this year’s event to unveil an all-new 2024 version.

Riding on the same platform as the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire, common on Australia roads as low-volume ‘grey’ imports, to date the LM has been a Chinese market-only model.

But the arrival of this second-generation version marks the LM’s expansion into “over 60” global markets, including Europe, Japan and Australia.

At over 5.1m long, with a 3.0m wheelbase, the VIP-focused LM will be available in a seven-, six- and flagship four-seat layout, the latter complete with two individual rear captain’s chairs, a 48-inch widescreen entertainment display, a refrigerator and a privacy screen.

According to Lexus, one of the key development priorities for the new LM was body rigidity, with the new model claimed to be 50 per cent more torsionally rigid than the model it replaces, despite retention of large aperture sliding doors. 

The new car also features ‘AVS Suspension with Frequency-Sensitive Piston Valve’, which combines an adaptive actuator and a frequency-sensitive piston valve in each shock absorber.

A ‘Rear Climate Concierge’ provides “holistic control of the air conditioning”, and there has been a strong focus on minimising road and wind noise, with a particular attention paid to the wheel arches, hood and pillars.

The LM will be available with two powertrain options: a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder hybrid for three-row versions, and a 2.4-litre turbocharged hybrid powertrain similar to the newly launched RX500h F Sport Performance SUV.

Lexus says launch timing, exact local specification and pricing will be confirmed “in due course”.
