AH, THE blessed Falcon caliper rattle. My BA had it and so did my dad's. There are many ways to get rid of it. Start by inflating the tyres to the maximum rating and keep them there. Replace the brake caliper clips, have the handbrake readjusted and leave it a little slack. This will result in a little further brake pedal travel, but will rid or at least minimise that blessed sound. Now for the whooshing noise from the back brake calipers: machine the discs, minimise use of the handbrake when parking, wherever possible park on the flat, leave it in gear/park and let the brakes cool naturally before applying the handbrake. The last step is important in stopping the discs warping and the whooshing noise returning. It's not an age thing -- I've found new cars making the noise. The same technique works on the Commodore.
YOU'VE done your homework on the problem and come up with the answers, but you would need to be a ``roads scholar'' to keep on top of it. Good info, though.
