I HAVE a 2000 VT 11 Commodore with the 220kW Gen 111 engine. It has around 85,000km and has extractors and a twin 2.5-inch exhaust system. I love this car and intend to keep it long-term. The performance is wonderful. It uses no oil between 10,000km services and the fuel economy is astonishing (up to 8.1 litres/100km on a trip and now around 9.8 litres/100km overall). For a little more mid-range oomph I am considering fitting a cold-air intake and an after-market performance engine management chip. Are you aware of any reasons why fitting the chip is not a good idea?
IT'S great to hear that you are not having any oil consumption issues with your Gen III V8 Commodore. There is no great risk in fitting a chip providing you consult an expert and buy a recognised chip. Give Peter Schweighofer a call at Swift Automotive in Dandenong and he'll be able to advise you on the best gear to use.
