I took your advice five years ago and bought a Mazda3 Neo with extra safety features and it has done 135,000km, mostly freeway driving, and has not missed a beat. I am looking to upgrade so I'm looking at a Mazda CX-3 sTouring, mainly because it is supposedly easier to get in and out of thanks to the ride height, or a Mazda 3 Touring. The CX-3 does not appear to be much higher, I think only 10cm, and is quite small. The Mazda3 is also a bit cheaper.
The CX-3 is noticeably smaller than your current car, even thought it gets The Tick. So does the stablemate, which is why I would steer you towards a new Mazda3.
