I AM driving a 2000 model AU2 Falcon six-cylinder auto, and getting it ready to tow a caravan about 5.5m long. The Falcon has a towing rating of 2300kg, but is there anything I should do to make sure I don't experience any problems? Should I tow in Drive? Do I need to fit any extra cooling device to the automatic transmission? Other than ensuring the cooling system has been professionally flushed and the auto trans fully flushed and the filter changed, do you recommend anything else before I leave?
DEFINITELY tow it in Drive, and I would think of adding a transmission oil cooler. It's also a good idea to service the transmission and replace the fluid.
