Through the glass darkly

WITH MY AU II Falcon I have a problem on a cold or wet day or night if I use my windscreen wipers. The screen appears to have oily blobs on it and it is extremely hard to see through, especially at night. I have tried everything from detergent to paint thinners. If I turn the heater on high on the screen, it eases the problem without clearing it.

CHECK to see if the film is on the outside or inside of the screen. It could be a build-up of plasticiser from the plastic interior trim parts and things such as cigarette smoke on the inside of the screen. A windscreen cleaner available from a servo or auto accessories store, should remove any oily film.
