A month ago I discovered the driver's side door opening seal on my seven-month-old Hyundai i30 had failed. It appeared to be paper-thin and had started to tear or split open. Thinking it would be covered by warranty, I took it to my local dealer only to be told that it was not covered as my body/clothes have been brushing against the pillar/seal as I entered exited the vehicle. I argued the point, but it was to no avail. I then decided to approach the dealer I had bought the car from only to be told basically the same thing. While sympathetic to my problem, he said his hands were tied, that Hyundai's policy was to reject any seal claims that show any signs of wear. He did suggest I contact Hyundai myself which I subsequently did. My claim was again rejected and I was told, "more care is needed when entering or exiting the vehicle to eliminate or prevent rubbing against the seal as admitted by the owner." I found that response unacceptable, what do you think?
Wear and tear is generally not covered by carmakers warranties, but you have what appears to be excessive wear and tear causing the failure of the seal. I would detail your experience and present it to Hyundai expressing your dissatisfaction with their response to your last claim.
