Our 2007 Toyota Prado GXL KDJ120R has had an engine failure due to a lack of oil. Our dealer says it was because fuel injectors 1 and 3 were leaking. It was serviced only 7000 km ago at 120,000 km and they did a valve clearance check, which I believe requires the injectors to be removed to do it and means they would have to change the seals. They said they did do a valve clearance check, but did not need to remove the injectors so the seals were not changed. They are now saying the leaking fuel injectors did not cause the engine failure, but the broken piston found in the sump was the cause. They are also blaming bad fuel. We bought the vehicle second hand, it had been serviced every 10,000 km, but by the owner and the seals have never previously been changed I believe. Do we have a case against Toyota for not changing the seals at the 120,000 km service?
You could make a claim for the cost of the 120,000 km service to be refunded, because it wasn’t done correctly, but you don't have much of a case for the engine repair. As the previous owner serviced the car and not Toyota, and the seals weren’t changed, Toyota has a perfect out.
