Odyssey On A Tank

I READ with a chuckle the letter complaining about the economy of a new Commodore while towing a caravan. I have no doubt that a Commodore could travel from Sydney to Melbourne on a tank of fuel. We drove our 2007 VE SV6 manual from Sydney to Brisbane on the Pacific Highway with two adults, two children and the boot and the rear passenger footwells full to the brim and it averaged 7.9 litres for 100km until we spent a day driving around, shopping and doing the tourist thing in Coffs Harbour. We eventually filled up near Tweed Heads, 898km after we left Sydney, and it took 73.5 litres, which equates to 8.2 litres/100km. Google Maps says it's 881km from Sydney to Melbourne, and I'm sure you would get better economy on the Hume than you would on the Pacific Highway at Christmas.

Many things can affect fuel consumption and you need to keep on top of them to make sure you're getting the best economy possible.
