I have noticed that the paint on my 2008 Mazda 3 seems to chip very easily. Chips have appeared since the day I bought it, but the service manager at my dealer has said they were just stone chips and it was just my bad luck. The thing is that each and every one of these marks still has the primer underneath, indicating to me that there is something wrong with the paint. It seems that anything at all will knock the paint off, even in the most unlikely of places. Twice I have asked for a second opinion at a well-respected smash repairer and the guy there agrees with me that the paint should not chip like it is. I have contacted Mazda customer support and they have told me that the dealer service manager has to agree that the paint problem is a warrantable item; otherwise it is not covered. Again the service manager told me it was just my bad luck, but he did however hint that if I could get an independent assessor to write a report then that might add weight to my claim. I have never had this paint chipping problem, to this extent, with any car I have owned in the past. What should I do?
Take the hint and get an independent report from a paint specialist to support your case for compensation. Graeme Cuthbert (0422 444335) is a recognized expert in the field and might be able to help.
