Laser points

I AM thinking of selling my 1989 Ford Laser KE hatch, which has 183,600km on the clock, because it is getting expensive to run due to the high petrol prices. The car is in good condition for its age and mechanically sound. They seem to be fetching between $3000 and $6000, but I went to a car dealer and he told me they were only worth between $600 and $1000. Selling privately, what should be my asking price?
