Insulation idea

I REFER to the problem dubbed unfriendly fire (Carsguide, February 23), in which the owner of a VR Commodore complained about a misfire that couldn't be traced. I owned a VR with similar problems. It was fixed by insulating the plug leads for about 150mm from the coil packs with corrugated rubber.

WE RECEIVED several responses form readers who had experienced similar problems with the VR Commodore. They suggested a number of possibilities: ignition coils, coil mountings and crank angle sensor on the damper. The crank angle sensor is a known problem with those early Commodores.
