We have a 2005 VZ Holden Commodore sedan with starter problems that started after warranty expired. Sometimes the problem seems to have gone away and the car consistently starts easily, but a few days later the problem returns. It normally starts easily first up but after a run or as the day gets hotter the starter sequence gets longer, sometimes requiring a second twitch of the key. It generally takes a few grinding seconds before firing. I have had numerous mechanics try to diagnose the problem and I have replaced the battery three times, a new ignition barrel has been fitted, I've tried switching fuel suppliers and finessing the pressure I use to turn the key. I would appreciate any advice please.
That it starts fine when it's cold and enriched, but not when it's warmed up and not getting any extra fuel suggests it could be a fuelling issue. Have a mechanic check the fuel pressure; it might not be getting enough fuel on hot restarts.
