Holden Acclaim coolant leak

I own a 2001 Holden Acclaim with a relative low mileage of 120,000 km, and as a retiree just use the car for city driving. I have serviced my car regularly every 6-8 months even though it might have only travelled 6000 km since the last service. Recently, after a service check, it was reported on my invoice that the coolant concentration was weak, it failed a TK test, and the auto trans fluid was dirty/discoloured. I don't understand what that meant, but I was told that that indicated a "leakage of the coolant from the radiator into the engine" and was advised that unless I have the "engine head" changed, the car could overheat and the engine could "seize" resulting in further damage. That "engine head" replacement, I was told would cost me about $2900. Thus far, I have had no problem whatsoever with my car, and it is running well, the oil level hasn't changed and there is no sign of overheating. I am worried that I might have to sell my car or else spend $2900 for the change of the "engine head. What should I do? I love my old Holden and want to continue using it for years to come, if I can.

I wouldn't rush into doing anything, there doesn't appear to be much, if anything wrong with your car. It's not using oil or overheating, so leave it alone until there is a clearer sign that something is wrong. If you are concerned have another mechanic, one that you trust to tell you the truth, check it, as your current mechanic would seem to be trying to get you to spend money you might not need to spend.
