WHEN I checked the service logbook for my 2008 Mini I found there are no fixed intervals for oil services. The dealer told me the service reminder would alert me when it needed servicing. The next service is due at 25,000km, which is a long interval compared to an Australian-made car that has a service every 10,000km or six months. My mechanic has advised me to change the oil at half the recommended intervals.
THE system is the same as used on BMWs and works fine. With today's engine technology and modern oils, there's no problem with the longer service intervals. I would stick to the recommended intervals and I wouldn't have a non-dealer mechanic service it while it's under warranty.
