Mitsubishi Pajero 2004: Using a performance chip

My 2004 Mitsubishi Pajero 3.2-litre turbo-diesel comfortably tows my 20-foot caravan, but a few of my friends have had a performance chip inserted in their vehicles at a cost of approximately $1500. They're not all Pajeros, but they claim that the chip gives their vehicles more power and better economy. Mine has clocked up 100,000 km. What are your thoughts on adding the chip?

I too have read the claims made by makers of these chips as well, but I don’t have the evidence that confirms the benefits, so I would leave well enough alone. By your admission the Pajero is doing the job, so I wouldn’t change it.
