When I got it home after having my one-year-old Mazda 3 Maxx Sport serviced I noticed a large area on the bonnet where the paint had been chipped away. I am positive the damage happened while my car was in the dealer?s care, but their response was that bird droppings caused it, and it was not their responsibility. I cleaned my car the night before taking it in for the service and there were no droppings there then. They also advised me that the heat in the engine activates the acid in the droppings, which eats at the paint and chips it away. I didn?t find this answer acceptable. Do you think I should take this further with Mazda?

Bird droppings can eat into the paint if they’re not cleaned off relatively quickly, but you’re right not accept the explanation, it’s rubbish. I would press my case with the dealer before going direct to Mazda. If, as you say, it happened while the car was in their care they are responsible for it. If you get the brush-off from the dealer’s service personnel demand to talk to the dealer principal. If that process fails to arrive at a satisfactory conclusion then go to Mazda. You could also have a paint expert give you an opinion, which might help your case, but you would have to pay for it.
