Aston Martin has followed a roller coaster trajectory of glorious highs and near-death lows over its 100-plus year history. But following its launch in 2004 the DB9 helped stabilise the business for more than a decade, generating a steady stream of interest and sales until its retirement in 2016. Powered by a glorious 5.9-litre V12 engine sitting in its nose, this glamorous rear-wheel drive, two-door ‘2+2’ coupe was ultimately offered in a range of versions from Coupe, through ‘Volante’ convertible, to the high-output GT near the end of the car’s run. Unusually for a modern Aston Martin, the DB9 never served as James Bond’s special vehicle.
