The Toyota Sequoia was first launched in 2000 as a full-size SUV based on the Tundra ute. Designed primarily for the North American market, it offered three rows of seating, a strong V8 engine and body-on-frame construction. The Sequoia was Toyota’s answer to large US rivals like the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe, giving families more space than the LandCruiser Prado.
The second generation arrived in 2007, growing in size and adding more safety and comfort features. It was sold exclusively with V8 power and aimed at buyers needing towing strength as well as passenger capacity. Updates over the years brought improved technology and styling changes, but the Sequoia remained a niche model outside North America and was not officially sold in Australia.
The third generation Toyota Sequoia debuted in 2022 with a hybrid V6 replacing the old V8. Built on the same platform as the latest Tundra and LandCruiser 300, it offers more efficiency without losing capability. Today the Sequoia continues as Toyota’s largest SUV in the US, positioned as a family alternative to the LandCruiser.
