Toyota Prado 2005: Soft brakes
Answered by Graham Smith · 26 May 2011

We have been told that some softness is a characteristic of the Prado, and despite this uncertain feeling the brakes do work and stop the car effectively. We have also been told that there is an issue with the brake master cylinder and Toyota has been replacing them under warranty. I would suggest you quiz your dealer about the master cylinder issue and request that he checks yours.

Toyota Prado 2005: Cracked door
Answered by Graham Smith · 24 May 2012

Given that this is the second such failure on your car and Toyota coughed up for the first one I think you are on solid grounds for a claim against the company. As you have tried the consumer affairs route and that has failed I would consult a lawyer and consider taking the company to court.

There have been a few issues with the tow bar on Prados and Toyota has been checking and replacing the attaching bolts and replacing the hitch with a genuine Toyota one where the vehicle is fitted with an aftermarket one. The Toyota hitches are rated to handle the weight the Prado is approved to tow.

Replaced Prado seals before recall
Answered by Graham Smith · 08 May 2015

If they’ve been changed I see no need to do it again. It’s unfortunate that you have replaced them before Toyota contacted you, but it’s done and I don't think you’ve got any comeback on the company now.

Toyota adds Prado to recall
By Karla Pincott · 24 Apr 2014
Toyota has announced it is adding the Prado SUV to a recent recall for a defect that could stop the driver's airbag from deploying if a cable between the steering wheel and column is damaged from excessive turning. The expansion of the recall adds 2000 Toyota Prados built from  September 2009 through to June 2010 to the pool of affected vehicles, which includes 179,000 of the Hiluxes built between April 2004 and December 2009.In both models, the spring may be damaged with repeated turns of the steering wheel, activating the airbag warning light and preventing the driver's airbag from properly deploying.A separate safety recall on 118,600 of the Yaris hatches and sedans built between June 2005 and May 2010 is to fix a defective seat track spring on the driver's and front passenger's seats, which can break and become stuck, leading to the impression that the seat is locked in place when it could actually fly loose in an accident.Vehicle owners are being contacted by Toyota, but in the meantime can get more information on the brand's campaign helpline on 1800 643 242.
