Selling tips

Laser points
By Graham Smith · 29 Sep 2005
I AM thinking of selling my 1989 Ford Laser KE hatch, which has 183,600km on the clock, because it is getting expensive to run due to the high petrol prices. The car is in good condition for its age and mechanically sound. They seem to be fetching between $3000 and $6000, but I went to a car dealer and he told me they were only worth between $600 and $1000. Selling privately, what should be my asking price?

Suzuki Swift 1991: Best way to sell it?
By Carsguide.com.au · 21 Apr 2005

I AM an elderly but fit driver who has just received a new 10-year licence and I want to buy a new car. I can afford it, if I can sell my current car for the price I want. It's a 1991 Suzuki Swift 1.6-litre auto which has done just 25,000km and is in perfect condition. I don't want to advertise it because I can't hear very well on the phone, so I would prefer to find a way to sell it without advertising. I am also keen to get $6000-$7000 for it.

And what price a fine vl?
By Carsguide.com.au · 31 Mar 2005
I HAVE just inherited my mother's VL Commodore and would like advice on a sale price. My parents bought it new, it has been garaged all of its life, has only 30,240km on the clock, the paint work is immaculate and the seats in perfect condition. The whole car is in showroom condition. Would you please advise a price range and contact details for any car clubs that might be interested?

A price on my commodore
By Carsguide.com.au · 18 Mar 2005
MY 1992 VP Commodore SS still runs well, has been serviced regularly, and has done 126,000km. I have replaced the radiator thermostat, and after having tyres replaced, had work done on the power steering because of a shudder when I turned the wheel sharply. This seems to have fixed the problem. I am happy to keep driving the Commodore and am not sure what I would replace it with, because I would probably not buy a V8 again. I have been told it would be a ``collector's item''. Could you say what you think the car would be worth now, or whether I should just keep driving it while I am enjoying it.

Holden Rodeo 1986: What is it worth?
By Graham Smith · 04 Feb 2005

I HAVE a 1986 Holden Rodeo manual two-wheel-drive aluminium-dropside utility. It has a 2-litre petrol engine with 150,000km on the clock and almost new 195R14 tyres. There are no special accessories. I would like to sell it privately and buy a similar-style, later-model utility. It is in good condition for its age, has been serviced and looked after, and garaged under cover for most of its life. I would like to know how to place a value on it. Also, does the market value vary significantly between capital cities or regional, remote and country areas? Because it's a useful farm vehicle, would it be better to try selling it privately in a farming area?

Trade or sell
By Graham Smith · 07 Aug 2003
We bought a new Mazda Astina four months ago (4500km) for $25,000, which included extras. We have since found the car to be too small for our family and want to upgrade. What would we get for our car and what would be the best way to sell it?

Playing the waiting game
By Graham Smith · 01 Aug 2002
I own a 1981 XD Ford Fairmont Ghia ESP that I bought new. It has a 5.8-litre V8 motor, automatic transmission, has travelled 98,500km and is in excellent condition. Could you tell me if it is worth any more than resale value and, if it is, where would be the best place to sell it?
