Kia Soul Hamsters get buff with Lady Gaga
By Richard Read · 26 Aug 2013
Kia has released a new commercial for the Soul -- featuring the same digital hamsters that have become synonymous with the Soul brand. But what's really interesting is that the Kia Soul commercial is backed by “Applause”, a brand new single from pop star Lady Gaga -- a single that was released just two weeks ago, and might've been released even later if it hadn't leaked to the internet ahead of schedule. That suggests that either (a) Kia's production team picked up the single very late in the game, after its release, or (b) they've been working with Lady Gaga all along and rushed the clip onto the airwaves to coincide with the song's debut. Both of those scenarios seems weird for a number of reasons, but most importantly:1. Major music artists are usually reluctant to place their music in advertisements. So we haven't really heard Lady Gaga's music in commercials. Does this mean the pop star's catalogue is open for business?2. In previous ads for the Soul, Kia used tunes by LMFAO and Black Sheep, which are very bro-friendly. Lady Gaga? Not so much. Is this a shift in marketing strategy? Is Kia's marketing team targeting Little Monsters now? Or is it just a coincidence?www.thecarconnection.com

Watch a truck backflip
By CarsGuide team · 21 Aug 2013
It would be scary enough seeing a car flipping into the air in front of you, but imagine if it were a speeding truck. That’s exactly what some drivers in Russia witnessed recently, when a truck barrelling down the road loses control, crashes into a ditch and then does a backflip. After viewing this dashcam footage, it appears the cause of the crash was a combination of factors. Too much speed, an incorrectly loaded bed and perhaps undulations in the road are all to have likely played a role in flipping this truck.Fortunately, the truck didn’t end up crashing into any other vehicles and its driver is said to have made it out alive.

Man stole entire road
By CarsGuide team · 08 Aug 2013
A 40-year-old Russian man faces up to two years in prison after admitting he stole 82 reinforced concrete slabs that made up a road in northwestern Russia. The man, from the city of Syktyvkar in Russia’s Northwestern Federal District, has admitted to using an industrial manipulator to dismantle the slabs from the road that links the village of Parcheg in the republic of Komi with the Vychegda River, The Moscow Times reported. The slabs, worth 200,000 rubles ($6,750), were then loaded onto three trucks, which police later stopped, the regional interior department said in a statement. The report said the man, who had a criminal record, admitted stealing the road. We imagine it would have been hard to say to the police “I have no idea how that got that there” when asked about the contents of the three trucks.
