With Subaru having shown off its new Performance-E and Performance-B STI concepts at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, its five-model showcase appears to now represent something of a future outlook for the brand.

One of 2025's biggest surprises is how much better the 2026 Foton Tunland is than expected. Aimed at the GWM Cannon and Isuzu D-Max at the lower-end of the mid-sized ute market, the Chinese dual-cab ups the ante by being almost a half-size larger, yet is no more expensive. Good steering, a pleasant cabin and refined mechanicals are bonuses. There are some issues, but this is a pleasing effort.

Basic CD player but good sound and woofer. Not much safety tech, only cruiser control with no adaptive cruise control.Good driving position but a bit small for me with 185cm height, with the seat too close too steering wheel. The cargo area is very spacious with rear seat taken out, since I have the 2-door version.Handling is very good considering it’s heavy and high with a solid chassis.Running costs is high due to high use of gas and services fairly cheap since there are a lot of parts due to high sales of the car. Insurance was low but very high after COVID.Engine and chassis are good but a lot of minor issues after 150,000km. But parts are cheap.

Leapmotor says its D19 will be a "desert-ready" 4WD that has the "crazy champions" (the Y63 Nissan Patrol and Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series) firmly in its sights thanks to its potent range extender powertrain and off-road capability.

Nissan is doubling-down on an off-road focused future, with the reports the brand will toughen-up the nex-generation Pathfinder with a ladder-frame chassis and real off-road credibility to act as pseudo smaller Y63 Patrol that can take the fight to the Toyota LandCruiser Prado.

Toyota would be stupid not to bring the new FJ Cruiser to Australia. And if there is one thing Toyota Australia isn’t, it’s stupid.
