S-Cross 4x4 suitable for retired driver?
Answered by Paul Gover · 28 Jun 2016

The S-Cross is not the best compact SUV I have driven but for short-haul work it will be fine and you should get a good deal if you can still buy a 2015 model so far into 2016.

Best second-hand city runaround?
Answered by Graham Smith · 01 Jul 2016

I wouldn't consider any of the European brands, they're too expensive and cost too much to run. That rules out the Up. Asian brands, particularly the better-known and well-respected Japanese brands are a much better bet, which rules in the Echo. The Asian brands tend to be more reliable and cost much less to run. Note that all of them are from Asia; I would suggest that you rule out anything from Europe. Another to consider would be the Mitsubishi Lancer.

You will get great value and a classy car in the Suzuki Grand Vitara. The CR-V also goes well and is slightly better value than a RAV4.

Experience with and Quality of Goodride tyre brand?
Answered by Paul Gover · 25 Jul 2016

I had never heard of the Goodride brand — although it sounds similar to the respected Goodrich in the US — so resorted to a Google search. It showed the parent company is Chinese. I have yet to drive on, or hear of, a decent Chinese tyre. Does that answer your question?

Best small car for city driving?
Answered by Paul Gover · 13 Jun 2016

You're not alone feeling the stress of choosing a new car. Toyota's Yaris is the safe choice but you should test drive the Suzuki Swift, since it also gets The Tick. Bargain hard on your favourite.
