VW Group seems to occupy every niche, as the sporty plug-in hybrid EV Cupra Leon VZe demonstrates. Based on the Golf GTE but with a totally different look and feel, the Mazda3-sized, Spanish-made Leon VZe combines an electric motor and a small turbo-petrol engine for limited pure-EV driving around town, or stirring performance out on the open road. But it's expensive and ergonomically flawed.
