On paper and after having reviewed well overseas, signs are good for the new Polestar 3: plenty of power, stacks of features and a properly premium look. It's finally here in Australia, so we're going to find out just how well it handles conditions here in Australia.

The true Polestar story starts with the 3. Based on the Volvo EX90 but sharing no visible panels inside or out, this big mid-sized SUV EV is the Chinese-owned Swedish brand's tilt at sportier alternatives like the BMW iX and Porsche Cayenne, and is priced accordingly. Key goals included striking design, leading comfort and driver-focused dynamics, in a safe, family-focused SUV. Does the 3 succeed?

Polestar led with the stunning Polestar 1 coupe. But built in left-hand drive only it never made it to Australia. In recent years the brand has built its presence here with the Polestar 2 sedan and soon it will be joined by the Polestar 3 EV SUV.
