So we put an Eclipse in your eclipse so you can Eclipse while you eclipse.
The Mitsubishi Eclipse, made famous in lime green quarter mile trim, pedaled by Brian O'Connor, has today gone full Meta on you.
The impending Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross was shot under the first solar eclipse in 99 years – that sun moon thing you have been seeing memes about for the last 48 hours.
Mitsubishi, in a move of timeliness and turnaround to be applauded in a large car company, jumped on what they refer to as the 'celestial spectacle' (someone in their PR dept got a promotion for that one) to help launch their new sporty hauler.
Since those halcyon days of Fast and The Furious, the car has evidently evolved from a NOS sucking quarter mile FF nunchuck to the Eclipse Cross SUV.
According to the brand's local website the Eclipse Cross is "set to re-define the Crossover landscape with sharp, expressive lines and a sleek yet muscular body, combining style and versatility like never before".
Suffice to say, that when Dom and Letty decide to settle down, they will be strapping bubs into the cargo hold of this sporty bad boy.
"It was an unprecedented marketing opportunity that we just couldn’t let pass us by," according to Francine Harsini, senior director, marketing, Mitsubishi Motors North America. "It"s a big year for us at Mitsubishi Motors, and to kick off the campaign for the all-new Eclipse Cross by successfully capturing content beneath a total eclipse of the sun was monumental."
Live streaming the whole eclipse, it seems that if Mitsubishi had been able to contact the sun or the moon's advertising reps, they would have made an interplanetary media buy. They really went for it.
The press release from the star gazing brand reads, "Additionally, the Eclipse Cross made its television debut in New York City's Time Square as a part of this morning's episode of Good Morning America. Mitsubishi Motors was the exclusive sponsor of ABC News' The Great American Eclipse live-coverage event of the total solar eclipse. Live footage at the point of totality and five co-branded promos aired during the broadcast."
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will go on sale in Australia in late 2017.
