It’s a pretty standard offer, and while I agree that the heater core should last longer your car is five years old, it’s out of the factory warranty period. I would take the offer and move on.

Try gently releasing the clutch while you’re holding the lever in the reverse position. It’s probably an adjustment issue, it could be a clip that’s broken, and nothing serious. I would take it to a mechanic who should be able to tell you exactly what is wrong with it.
It could be the battery; it could be the fuel pump. I had a similar problem that turned out to be a blown head gasket, so it could be worth doing a leak test.
