Volkswagen has introduced a facelifted variant of its Multivan range, with refreshed styling, new available technology and an improvement in interior quality the headline changes before an expected Australian release in late 2019. VW has also upgraded the active safety equipment in the Multivan facelift to include features such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, cross wind assist, lane assist, automatic parking, rear view assist, trailer assist, side protection and road sign recognition.The interior of the Multivan has gained a number of new features as well. The company’s active info display digital dials system is now available, as is the latest generation of multimedia systems - including the 9.2-inch media screen from other Volkswagen products. USB C inputs are also pictured in the cabin, which will give fast charging capability for devices.Available drivetrains have been upgraded, with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel featuring on all models with power figures ranging from 66kW to 146kW. An all-electric model has been developed by German company ABT, and offers more than 400km of driving range from a 77.6kWh battery pack - though that is unlikely to be offered locally. The facelifted Volkswagen Multivan range is yet to be confirmed by Volkswagen Australia, though is likely to land locally within 2019. 

Volkswagen Australia has revealed the Multivan Black Edition, a special-edition version of its people-mover, which will enter showrooms next month priced from $63,490 plus on-road costs.

The charity rescues excess food supplies and turns them into healthy meals for the needy by using innovative technology to manage its logistical challenges. FareShare is a Melbourne-based non-profit group that salvages various ingredients that would normally be thrown out from a range of food producers, farmers and restaurants. Some of it is passed on directly to charities that distribute it to people who need it most, but FareShare uses many of the ingredients to make nutritional meals to feed the hungry and homeless. So far this year it has given away close to 350,000 meals through 168 charities. The numbers are impressive and the logistical challenge posed by collecting ingredients, deciding what to do with it all and then distributing the cooked meals is daunting. FareShare CEO, Marcus Godinho, says the group benefits from a cutting edge application, which was the brainchild of a young IT expert, John Wilson. “John contacted us and said he wanted to help, but not in the kitchen,” Godinho says. Time passed and Wilson suggested making an iPad application to streamline the entire process. “The driver can now plot his route using Google Maps, he can enter what he has collected at each destination rather than having to fill out paperwork,” Godinho says. “He can then type in how much of each ingredient he has picked up, there might be 20kg of fruit or 10kg of meat.” This information is immediately relayed to the logistics manager and the kitchen. “The kitchen might be informed it has a bumper amount of pumpkins coming in. So it can be prepared and gear up to make the right kind of meals,” he says. FareShare runs six refrigerated vans and trucks, which are maintained (free of charge) by Linfox, which also provides training to the drivers.  

The Edition25 Multivan is based on the current Comfortline model, but looks sharper and offers equipment.A sports chassis and strengthened anti-roll bar make the special model even more agile on the road.The Edition25 will be offered in just the one color Candy White with grey `Nappa' leather and anthracite highlights. The van can easily be distinguised by its matte black roof and black 18-inch alloys.It is powered by VW's most powerful twin turbo 132kW 2.0 litre diesel, with power to the front wheels through a DSG gearbox. The van comes with VW's RCD 310 sound system with a total of eight speakers.Fog lamps with cornering lights are also standard, along with daytime running lights, tyre pressure indicator, assisted final-closing (latching) for side and rear doors and rain sensor. This special Edition25 Multivan is priced from $66,990.
