2022 MG MG3 Excite review - Long-term owner
By Owner Review · 03 Feb 2026
Center screen is a great size, but it's only compatible with Apple CarPlay - there is no Android Auto compatibility. Screen is fast, well presented and has everything you'd want from a modern car. Safety tech is good. Not too intrusive.Rear cargo area is great. The seats fold down and create a huge amount of space for the size of the car. It seats four adults happily, and five if you really wanted to.It could do with a smidge more power. The Chinese EVs and hybrids coming out for similar prices to the MG3 really show what is possible at this market point. Steering feel is good. Suspension seems to be well tuned for Australian roads, which is a big plus.Dealership servicing - as always - is a little on the steeper side. These cars are dead simple to service. Find a good, reputable mechanic and you'll see regular servicing under $300 pretty easily. Parts are a little bit tricky to find at suppliers like Repco & Supercheap Auto, but a little bit of digging and air filters, oil filters and the sorts can be sourced quite cheaply. Wrecking yards want silly money for parts - like brake lights - due to how new the car is. Again, a little research will see you find a bargain here.Great! No major issues with the car in 70,000km. There are a few little things, though. The standard spark plugs are awful on this car and are known to need replacement around 50,000km. We were seeing misfires at 40,000km due to the spark plugs wearing out. Around $100 in parts and very little in labor sorts this out with no worries.Interior trim pieces like the third brake light in the rear window are known to fall off. A little bit of glue or a trip to the dealer under warranty will have this sorted in no time. These cars are dead simple, so even if something major were to happen, you'd still see a few grand in your pocket compared to anything made in Europe.

2021 MG ZS Excite review - Long-term owner
By Owner Review · 01 Jul 2025
Only has rear parking sensors and is technically very basic, lacking sophistication. No external temperature read-out so you don’t know how hot or cold it is outside. Would expect that as a standard feature on a 2021 model. My MG ZS has plenty of space. I was recently ble to fit 2.5m long facia timber boards in the car by folding the rear seats. I was surprised. Meant I didn’t need a trailer which saved me money. Plenty of space. Fits five adults easily. Comfortable ride. Great city car. Drives well with a comfortable ride. A bit sluggish and lacks power but I feel safe and secure in my MG ZS.Lowest fuel cost of all the vehicles I have owned. Very economical with low cost for insurance and very happy with the low servicing cost. Very reliable vehicle. Always starts first go and I have peace of mind with the MG ZS. I never fear it's going to break down, in contrast to my previous vehicle (Saab convertible) which was unreliable.

2023 MG MG4 Essence 64 review - Long-term owner
By Owner Review · 20 May 2025
The infotainment screen has a lot of different driving options, from the lane-keeping assist function, active cruise adjustment and MG Pilot. FM and digital radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car will not drive unless the driver seat belt is fastened. The driver is able to adjust most driving functions to suit their driving needs through the infotainment touchscreen, which needs to be a bit more reactive. The cars interior is minimalist as most of the controls has to be accessed through the touchscreen. There are a control buttons for the radio volume, air-conditioning on/off only, front and rear window demister. and home screen reset. The front seats are comfortable in this model. In the Essence, the drivers seat has electric adjustment, which in our case is very handy. There are two cup holders and ample storage. The rear seat has 60/40 split rear and the cargo has ample area for storage but no spare wheel.Driving the MG Essence puts a smile on your face. With rear-wheel drive, 150kW and 250Nm, the MG is very responsive from the start, and to have to change lanes there is always enough response. One pedal driving is a great option as it saves the wear and tear on the brakes and can add charge back to the main battery. The running costs of the MG compared to our last car is like chalk and cheese. I charge the MG on average once a month from home. I run the battery 80% to 20%. The charging takes about 20 hours from a normal domestic power outlet. I get approximately 250km between charging at a cost of approximately $10.The servicing is every two years at approximately $1200 over a four-year period.Insurance for the MG was a bit of a challenge to start with as when I bought the car in September not all insurance companies had this model on their books, but it finished ok.I have had quite a few new cars over my driving years. Comparing the MG EV to the ICE-powered cars is probably not fair as there is a lot less to have problems with on EVs as they are more electronic than mechanical. But I have been driving this car now for five months and the only complaint I have is the infotainment touchscreen is a bit slow to react.
