The Mazda CX-70 is a relatively new entrant in Mazda’s growing SUV portfolio, arriving in 2024 as a two-row alternative to the larger CX-90. Built on Mazda’s premium-focused Large Platform architecture, the CX-70 blends performance, practicality and style for families and empty-nesters alike. It’s aimed at buyers wanting a roomier and more refined experience than what the CX-5 or CX-60 offer.
Under the bonnet, the CX-70 offers a choice of powerful drivetrains, including a turbocharged inline-six with mild-hybrid tech and a plug-in hybrid variant, depending on the market.
Inside, the CX-70 prioritises comfort with a five-seat layout, high-quality finishes and clever cargo space. Its blend of luxury cues and everyday usability positions it as a compelling SUV option for Australian drivers seeking space without going full-size.
The line-up currently starts at $76,220 for the CX-70 G50E Gt and ranges through to $91,166 for the range-topping CX-70 D50E Azami Sp.

The Mazda CX-70 is the same size as the CX-90, but unlike the latter, this one only has seating for five. And if you don't need the third row, then consider that win, because the CX-70 has heaps of room in the back row, and even more in the boot.
The Mazda CX-70 is available in 'Rhodium White Metallic', 'Deep Crystal Blue Mica', 'Melting Copper Metallic', 'Machine Grey Metallic', 'Zircon Sand Metallic', 'Polymetal Grey', 'Soul Red Crystal Metallic' or 'Jet Black Mica'.
The CX-70 measures a substantial 5120mm in length, 1994mm in width, and 1745mm in height, and it rides on a 3120mm wheelbase.
It will tow 2.5 tonnes no matter which engine you choose, and the expansive boot will swallow between 589 litres and 2015 litres, depending on how you configure the backseat.
You can have one of two engines in the CX-70, with the cheapest being a 3.3-litre, six-cylinder turbo-petrol, producing 254kW and 500Nm. There's also a 3.3-litre, six-cylinder turbo-diesel, making 187kW and 550Nm. Both are equipped with a 48-volt mild hybrid system to marginally reduce fuel use.
All models are AWD, and pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Mazda has thrown just about everything they've got at the CX-70. The GT kicks off with plenty of high-end gear, including 21-inch black alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof and a handsfree powered tailgate.
Inside, there's twin 12.3-inch screens with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12-speaker Bose stereo, leather seats that are heated front and rear, three-zone climate control and a heated steering wheel.
The Azami then adds things like ambient lighting, black Nappa leather seats, ventilated in the front, footwell lighting, body-coloured wheel arches and lower cladding and body-colour exterior side door handles.

Mazda hasn't issued an offical zero to 100km/h time for the CX-70, but given it's a choice between two six-cylinder engines, neither feel slow or underpowered. We'd estimate a circa nine-second run to 100km/h.
Petrol-powered version of the Mazda CX-70 will sip 8.1L/100km on the combined cycle, while the diesel drops that to 5.4 litres.
Both models get a 74-litre tank, meaning a theoretical driving range of around 900kms in the petrol, and almost 1400kms in the diesel.
