Nikki Cousins and Peter Anderson road test and review the 2016 Ferrari California T, with specs, fuel consumption and verdict.

Twin turbo V8 convertibles generally don't come with four seats and a boot big enough to put the shopping in, but when they do, the Torquing Heads team springs into action. That springing tends to be even more enthusiastic than usual when it turns out the car in question is the $408,000 (and up) Ferrari California T.

The California's second generation has a new engine, a lot of new stuff and, as buyers flock to it from all over the globe, there are heaps of fresh options available. The California we got our mitts on has been through the marque's Tailor Made program. On top of the $30,000 of 'standard' options, the Tailor Made additions loaded another $50,000 on to the price.

After living with the California T, Peter is keen to find out if it's the 'soft' Ferrari many of his colleagues say it is, while Nikki ponders how many of her children she'd have to sell to make it hers.

Peter grew up in a house in Western Sydney where automotive passion extended to white Sigmas and Magnas. At school he discovered "those" magazines that weren't to be found in the house. Magazines that offered him the chance to sit in the driver's seat of cars he’d never even heard of let alone seen. His path to rebellion was set - he would love cars, know cars and want to write about cars, much to his family’s disgust. They wanted him to be a teacher. He bought a series of terrible cars and lusted after Ford Escort Cosworths, the Alfa Romeo 164 Q and occasionally kicked himself for selling his 1977 Alfa GTV. From 1.0-litre three cylinders to roaring V12s, Peter has driven them all and can't wait to tell you all about it.
