2014 Lamborghini Huracan revealed

By Karla Pincott · 20 Dec 2013
The 10-year-old Lamborghini Gallardo is about to be replaced, with the successor due to be revealed in just a few day's time. So naturally nearly everybody is hoping that a glimpse will leak early, but we're not sure this is it.These images have surfaced online over the past 24 hours, and are alleged to be Lamborghini renderings -- although usually the Italian brand produces something with a little more artistic flair. However the images do closely follow the lines of the camouflaged car we've seen testing in spy shots -- so if they're unofficial, somebody has at least made an effort to give their impression of what the finished car will look like. Echoing the lean lines of the Aventador, the new arrival -- tipped in these images to be christened the Huracan, although elsewhere also called the Cabrera -- sports a 'flying buttress' C-pillar, gaping hexagonal front intakes and similarly hungry ones at the rear of the side sills to channel air over the engine and brakes. Tail-end cues include quad exhaust tips and elongated rear light clusters, while the cabin also echoes the Aventador's digital jet-fighter cockpit feel. The new arrival is expected to carry an uprated version of the Gallardo's 5.2-litre V10 engine, but tweaked to squeeze out 447kW of power (about 40kW over the current base model and 28kW more than the top-spec). There's no chance of a manual transmission, but a new seven-speed dual clutch will replace the long-toothed e-gear automated manual, driving all four wheels as standard but with a rear-wheel drive version continuing as an option.Sharing its platform with the coming VW group stablemate Audi R8, weight-saving aluminium and carbon-fibre should help trim the scales down from the current Lambo's 1600kg for the all-wheel drive and 1470kg for the rear-wheel drive to about 1330kg and 1300kg respectively, while assisting the new car to a 0-100km/h time of around 3 seconds and a top speed of 320km/h.With an official reveal tipped as a Christmas present for fans, the car is likely to get a global debut at Geneva motor show in March and go on sale overseas in the middle of next year.

Lamborghini super car wrecked on test drive

It's enough to make you weep - a $200,000 Lamborghini is off to the wreckers after a test run ended in disaster. The owner was left devastated after the luxury car, due to be delivered to him yesterday by Lorbek Luxury Cars, was written off in an accident while being tested.
A mechanic was driving the car when a woman did a U-turn on Arden St, North Melbourne, and hit it. The dealership said the car was a rarity in being near-new and in perfect condition.
The 2004 yellow Lamborghini Gallardo had one previous owner, had travelled just 18,453km and was a six-speed manual coupe that retailed for $200,000.
Lorbek Luxury Cars owner Srecko Lorbek said: 'We are very upset and the owner is devastated. Perfect cars like this one are hard to find and we went to a lot of trouble to find it. This one was a particularly special one."
Mr Lorbek said his dealership would not resell the car.
Lamborghinis crash and burn | video

The equivalent of more than $1.5 million has crashed and burned on an expressway in Malaysia, where three Lamborghinis formed their own very expensive Italian supercar pile-up.The cars -- a black Aventador, green Gallardo and an orange Gallardo Superleggera with STS spoiler -- had been travelling from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur in a group of five Lambos on a charity event when one driver smashed into the guardrail. Another two failed to react quickly enough to avoid the crashed car, and ended up joining it, with all three catching fire.Later reports have since indicated the accident may have been caused by a local driver swerving towards the three Lamborghinis, with the first one crashing in an effort to avoid the swerving car and the others smashing in a chain reaction.Luckily the drivers escaped without injuries, according to Yahoo News Singapore, however there's no indication yet of what speed the cars were doing at the time, or how close they were to each other in the convoy.Emergency services crews extinguished the blaze, but by the looks of the photos posted on Twitter, the three Lamborghinis are likely all a write-off.The Aventador, which was pinned to the guardrail by the other two cars, sells in Australia from $761,500 while the Gallardo starts at $409,500 -- with both also incurring a hefty Luxury Car Tax whack. Insurance may well cover the cost of the cars in the crash, although the Gallardo owners might have trouble replacing them, as the model is about to reach the end of its life.Watch the desktop version of the three Lamborghinis crash and burn video here. Lamborghini Veneno Roadster debut

By Malcolm Flynn · 03 Dec 2013
Lamborghini’s ultra-exclusive Veneno Roadster has made its public debut, with the winged wonder appropriately wheeled out on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier.
In a scene reminiscent of Cher’s 80s hit If I Could Turn Back Time, the soft-top supercar made its first outdoor appearance aboard the 240m Italian naval ship Nave Cavour, while docked in Abu Dhabi’s Mina Zayed port.
The event was part of a UAE Italian industry showcase, with Lamborghini chosen to represent the Italian car industry at the 'Italian evening' on December 1.
"We are honoured that Lamborghini was chosen to represent the Italian car industry in the UAE, as a perfect example of iconic Italian super sports cars, and that we have the opportunity to show the Veneno Roadster for the first time in Abu Dhabi," Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann said at the event.
"Lamborghini has an extremely strong following in the region for its super sports cars, with the Middle East one of our largest markets in the world."
Other Italian products on show included the food of notable Portofiino chef Corrado Corti, the music of singer/actress Elena Bonelli, the creations of fashion designer Giada Curti, and former soccer star Fabio Cannavaro was also in attendance.
Just 9 examples of the 3.3 million Euro (4.9m) Veneno Roadster will be built, which is triple the build of its hardtop sibling unveiled at Geneva earlier this year.
Like the Veneno hardtop, the Avendador-based roadster uses a 552kW version of Lamborghini’s 6.5L V12, with claimed 0-100km/h acceleration of 2.9 seconds, and a top speed of 355km/h.

White replaces silver as favourite car colour
Read the article
By Staff Writers · 23 Oct 2013
After more than a decade as the world's favourite car colour, silver is falling in popularity to white. PPG Industries, the leading supplier of automotive paints, says 25 percent of the vehicles it supplied in the 2013 model year were white, up 3 percent from the prior year. Silver and black tied for second, with 18 percent each.White dominates in Europe, North America and Asia. Only in South America is silver still king. Apple Inc., with its all-white stores and gadgets, made white a high-tech colour. The variety of whites - from flat shades to creamy pearls - is also contributing, says Jane Harrington, PPG's manager of automotive colour styling. But if you don't relish a whiteout on the highway, never fear. Carmakers are currently scouting colours for the 2016 and 2017 model years, and Harrington is showing them some eye-popping options, from a pink-tinged bright red developed in Asia to a rich dark gray with faint green highlights.Eleven different browns - from light copper to dark chocolate - and an equal number of grays are part of PPG's annual colour show for automakers at its automotive centre in the Detroit suburb of Troy. There are six yellows and seven greens, from seafoam to dark olive. One notable absence: Powder blue, which is increasingly confined to electric cars or hybrids.Harrington and her international team determine colour trends by watching fashion, architectural paint colours and other predictors. She thinks we'll see more deep jewel tones like teal and more earthy metallics, like reddish orange, in the coming years. With the end of the recession, drivers don't mind being showy again, she saysCar buyers could also see taxi-like yellows and other flat, bright colours, which are growing in popularity thanks to small, funky entries like the Kia Soul. Pastel tones, like mint green and very light pink, are also in the mix.PPG will take its colour tour on the road to Los Angeles, Europe and Asia and will then start working with individual automakers on their choices. Companies typically choose eight to 10 colours for every model. PPG won't say how many cars it supplies paint for each year, but it works with every major car company. "They think about the vehicle and how that colour will translate," Harrington said. "That colour, sparkle and finish helps define the car's character."

Lamborghini Veneno Roadster priced at $4.7m

Lamborghini has released photos and details of its Veneno Roadster -- the open-air variant of the radical Veneno coupe built to help mark the brand's 50th anniversary. The hardtop saw a global debut at the Geneva motor show in March this year, and is being built in an edition of just four for $4.5 million. The Roadster will see a bigger production run -- okay, it's still just going to be nine vehicles -- and for the loss of the roof you pay about $200,000 more.
Based on the Aventador, the Veneno shares its 6.5-litre V12 -- tuned to deliver 552kW of power (a lift of 42kW over the donor car) and 690Nm of torque, driving all four wheels via an automated manual transmission. The figures give the coupe the crown as the most powerful of Lambo's road cars, and the fastest, with a 0-100km/h time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 356km/h in both hardtop and open forms.
The roadster is not far behind, with 2.9 seconds and 355km/h, and is able to match the coupe's performance because it's not hindered by its kind's usual weight penalty. It tips the scales at 1490kg, just 40kg more than the coupe, with liberal use of aircraft-spec carbon fibre using the brand's own forged production process that blends short threads of carbon into the resin and then pressure-cures it in heated molds in just minutes.
The wedge body has an aerodynamic setup designed for extreme downforce and stability -- including a deep multiple-plane front spoiler, track-bred rear wing and finned engine cover -- but Lamborghini says the Veneno Roadster also has extremely low wind resistance.

Lamborghini unveiled the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse at Frankfurt as the second special racing edition spawned by its Super Trofeo series. So of course we want to see it on the track, and the Italian brand has complied with a video giving our first look at it in track action.Almost a clone of the Super Trofeo racer, the street-legal Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse borrows technology and weight-reduction strategies from the track version, including high-downforce aerodynamics, considerable use of carbon fibre and aluminium -- and a quick-release engine bay cover.Under that cover is the same V10 engine used in the Super Trofeo mated to a robotised e-gear six-speed transmission operated by steering wheel paddles, punting the all-wheel drive Squadra Corse to 100km/h in just 3.4 seconds and on to 200km/h in 10.4 seconds with a top speed of 320km/h.Watch video of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse here. This reporter is on Twitter: @KarlaPincott
Over 100 Lamborghinis tackle a hairpin bend

Seeing more than 100 Lamborghinis travelling in a rapid convoy is not one of the world’s more common sights, but that’s exactly what the supercar maker’s recent celebration of its 50th anniversary managed to create.
The event saw 350 of the raging bull-badged models converge on Lamborghini’s home town of Sant’Agata in Italy. Despite far from ideal supercar weather, a keen Lamborghini fan managed to capture at least 100 of the celebrating Lambos converge on a hairpin bend in procession.
The convoy is somewhat of a walk down Lamborghini memory lane, with a 350GT, a couple of Muiras, Espadas and Countaches, a few Diablos, several Gallardo, Murcielago and Aventadors -- all displaying their distinctive visual and audible wares.
For the keen-eyed, at least four of the Aventadors can be seen puffing blue flames from their exhaust orifices on overrun.
