Eric Bana will race Lamborghini at Bathurst
By Staff Writers · 21 Jan 2014
The 45-year-old will tackle the 12-hour sports car endurance race aboard the No. 99 Lamborghini Gallardo LP520 with long-time friend Peter Hill and gentleman racer Simon Middleton. The Hollywood actor has raced in the Bathurst enduro twice - leading the race in 2011 before his co-driver crashed out - and is excited to be back behind the wheel at the legendary Mount Panorama."I can't wait to get back to the circuit," the man behind the movie Love the Beast said on Tuesday. "The car is fantastic to drive, and the thought of competing once again with a couple of mates at this event is very exciting. I am thrilled that my calendar has allowed me to once again test myself at one of the worlds most demanding circuits."The car is the same one Bana tweeted about at a track day late last year, which led to he and former Formula 1 racer Mark Webber putting together plans to race together in next year's Bathurst 12 Hour. This time around Bana's car won't be a contender for outright honours, their 2008-model Lamborghini competing in Class B while a host of international and local sports car stars race for the win in Class A. "We are there to have some serious fun among an incredible line up of International A-Level Endurance Teams and Drivers."Read the full story at Fox Sports. No such thing as a bad day at @PICircuit, 2008 spec GT3 Lambo, time for another #Bathurst12hour ?? pic.twitter.com/W0eBGWpS7q— Eric Bana (@EricBana67) November 8, 2013

Apartment with free car: Lamborghini Aventador
By Karla Pincott · 06 Jan 2014
It's not uncommon to see real estate developers add sweeteners to lure buyers, but a Dubai-based firm is taking the trend to a higher level by offering new cars with residences in their latest tower project -- and this time around a 2014 Lamborghini Aventador for each of the penthouses. Those taking the lesser properties will have to make do with a BMW or Mini Cooper, depending on the size of the purchase -- which will probably make for some confusion in nearby shopping centre carparks unless different colours are chosen for each. The developers, Damac, are making the offers as part of their apartment deal during the annual Dubai Shopping Festival promotion. And it's not the first time the company has dangled 'extras' as consumer lures -- including cars, boats, planes and even other real estate. Last year's shopping festival saw Damac offer penthouses with an Audi R8, while the three-bedroom apartments each had a free Audi A8 in the car spot, two-bedroom ones scored an A6 and the one-bedders a somewhat more everyday A4. And in previous years the extras have included other luxury cars, motor yachts, and -- for a very exclusive promotion in 2008 -- an Eclipse 500 private jet and Pelican Caye Island, one of the few private islands on the Turneffe Atolla in the Caribbean. “Damac Properties’ DSF promotion is always highly anticipated and we see some of the best results of the year during this time,” the firm's senior vice-president Niall McLoughlin said in a statement. And the strong response is hardly surprising. The apartments should sell like hotcakes with the kind of icing they're offering. And at least if the tower isn't completed on time, you can camp in your Lamborghini while you wait for the tradies to finish. This reporter is on Twitter: @KarlaPincott

2014 Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 | video
By Karla Pincott · 23 Dec 2013
After several days of leaked images and teased details, Lamborghini has finally shown us the Huracan LP 610-4 that replaces the exiting 10-year-old Gallardo. And to give us a taste of what will arrive, they've released a video that follows the exploits of some lads who sneak into the Lambo HQ to get a sneak look and spin of the Huracan.Named in Lambo tradition for a fighting bull -- Huracan faced the matador in Spain's Alicante bullring in August 1879 -- the car will be unveiled at Geneva motor show in March and go on sale after being seen by prospective buyers in a series of private viewings around the world.Watch the Lamborghini Huracan 'home video' As expected, the Huracan is powered by an uprated version of the Gallardo's 5.2-litre V10, developing  448kW of power at 8250rpm and 560Nm of torque peaking at 6500rpm, mated to a new twin-clutch transmission derived from the system used in VW Group stablemate Audi R8.Watch three Lamborghinis crash and burn togetherThe new DSG delivers outputs to all corners, with the four-wheel drive system upgraded to add electronically switchable modes -- Strada (street), Sport, and Corsa (track) -- that alter the gearbox and engine settings, exhaust note, drive system and stability control.Watch the Lamborghini Gallardo track testLamborghini claims a 0-100km/h time of 3.2 seconds, 0-200km/h in 9.9, and a top speed of more than 325km/h, while keeping fuel economy to 12.5L/100km. That fuel figure is achieved with the help of a stop-start system and a weight of just 1422kg with diet strategies including the use of aluminium and carbon-fibre spaceframe chassis -- like the gearbox, adapted from the R8.Watch the Lamborghini LP-5704 Squadra Corse on the trackThe Huracan gets carbon-ceramic brakes as standard fitment, while the options include magnetic active suspension and electronically controlled variable steering ration system. Future Huracan versions are likely to include rear-wheel drive and convertible variants, but there is no manual gearbox on the plan now or in the future. The Huracan will arrive in Australia mid-2014 priced from $428,000, a rise of close to $20,000 over the current $409,500 entry level Gallardos but carrying the extra standard spec of carbon brakes, DSG and multi-mode four-wheel drive that will make it seem a bargain against the outgoing $541,500 Superleggera variants. This reporter is on twitter: @KarlaPincott

2014 Lamborghini Huracan revealed
By Karla Pincott · 20 Dec 2013
The 10-year-old Lamborghini Gallardo is about to be replaced, with the successor due to be revealed in just a few day's time. So naturally nearly everybody is hoping that a glimpse will leak early, but we're not sure this is it.These images have surfaced online over the past 24 hours, and are alleged to be Lamborghini renderings -- although usually the Italian brand produces something with a little more artistic flair. However the images do closely follow the lines of the camouflaged car we've seen testing in spy shots -- so if they're unofficial, somebody has at least made an effort to give their impression of what the finished car will look like. Echoing the lean lines of the Aventador, the new arrival -- tipped in these images to be christened the Huracan, although elsewhere also called the Cabrera -- sports a 'flying buttress' C-pillar, gaping hexagonal front intakes and similarly hungry ones at the rear of the side sills to channel air over the engine and brakes. Tail-end cues include quad exhaust tips and elongated rear light clusters, while the cabin also echoes the Aventador's digital jet-fighter cockpit feel. The new arrival is expected to carry an uprated version of the Gallardo's 5.2-litre V10 engine, but tweaked to squeeze out 447kW of power (about 40kW over the current base model and 28kW more than the top-spec). There's no chance of a manual transmission, but a new seven-speed dual clutch will replace the long-toothed e-gear automated manual, driving all four wheels as standard but with a rear-wheel drive version continuing as an option.Sharing its platform with the coming VW group stablemate Audi R8, weight-saving aluminium and carbon-fibre should help trim the scales down from the current Lambo's 1600kg for the all-wheel drive and 1470kg for the rear-wheel drive to about 1330kg and 1300kg respectively, while assisting the new car to a 0-100km/h time of around 3 seconds and a top speed of 320km/h.With an official reveal tipped as a Christmas present for fans, the car is likely to get a global debut at Geneva motor show in March and go on sale overseas in the middle of next year.

Lamborghini super car wrecked on test drive
By Staff Writers · 13 Dec 2013
It's enough to make you weep - a $200,000 Lamborghini is off to the wreckers after a test run ended in disaster. The owner was left devastated after the luxury car, due to be delivered to him yesterday by Lorbek Luxury Cars, was written off in an accident while being tested. A mechanic was driving the car when a woman did a U-turn on Arden St, North Melbourne, and hit it. The dealership said the car was a rarity in being near-new and in perfect condition. The 2004 yellow Lamborghini Gallardo had one previous owner, had travelled just 18,453km and was a six-speed manual coupe that retailed for $200,000. Lorbek Luxury Cars owner Srecko Lorbek said: 'We are very upset and the owner is devastated. Perfect cars like this one are hard to find and we went to a lot of trouble to find it. This one was a particularly special one." Mr Lorbek said his dealership would not resell the car.

Lamborghinis crash and burn | video
By Karla Pincott · 09 Dec 2013
The equivalent of more than $1.5 million has crashed and burned on an expressway in Malaysia, where three Lamborghinis formed their own very expensive Italian supercar pile-up.The cars -- a black Aventador, green Gallardo and an orange Gallardo Superleggera with STS spoiler -- had been travelling from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur in a group of five Lambos on a charity event when one driver smashed into the guardrail. Another two failed to react quickly enough to avoid the crashed car, and ended up joining it, with all three catching fire.Later reports have since indicated the accident may have been caused by a local driver swerving towards the three Lamborghinis, with the first one crashing in an effort to avoid the swerving car and the others smashing in a chain reaction.Luckily the drivers escaped without injuries, according to Yahoo News Singapore, however there's no indication yet of what speed the cars were doing at the time, or how close they were to each other in the convoy.Emergency services crews extinguished the blaze, but by the looks of the photos posted on Twitter, the three Lamborghinis are likely all a write-off.The Aventador, which was pinned to the guardrail by the other two cars, sells in Australia from $761,500 while the Gallardo starts at $409,500 -- with both also incurring a hefty Luxury Car Tax whack. Insurance may well cover the cost of the cars in the crash, although the Gallardo owners might have trouble replacing them, as the model is about to reach the end of its life.Watch the desktop version of the three Lamborghinis crash and burn video here. This reporter is on Twitter: @KarlaPincott

Lamborghini Veneno Roadster debut
By Malcolm Flynn · 03 Dec 2013
Lamborghini’s ultra-exclusive Veneno Roadster has made its public debut, with the winged wonder appropriately wheeled out on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. In a scene reminiscent of Cher’s 80s hit If I Could Turn Back Time, the soft-top supercar made its first outdoor appearance aboard the 240m Italian naval ship Nave Cavour, while docked in Abu Dhabi’s Mina Zayed port. The event was part of a UAE Italian industry showcase, with Lamborghini chosen to represent the Italian car industry at the 'Italian evening' on December 1. "We are honoured that Lamborghini was chosen to represent the Italian car industry in the UAE, as a perfect example of iconic Italian super sports cars, and that we have the opportunity to show the Veneno Roadster for the first time in Abu Dhabi," Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann said at the event. "Lamborghini has an extremely strong following in the region for its super sports cars, with the Middle East one of our largest markets in the world." Other Italian products on show included the food of notable Portofiino chef Corrado Corti, the music of singer/actress Elena Bonelli, the creations of fashion designer Giada Curti, and former soccer star Fabio Cannavaro was also in attendance. Just 9 examples of the 3.3 million Euro (4.9m) Veneno Roadster will be built, which is triple the build of its hardtop sibling unveiled at Geneva earlier this year. Like the Veneno hardtop, the Avendador-based roadster uses a 552kW version of Lamborghini’s 6.5L V12, with claimed 0-100km/h acceleration of 2.9 seconds, and a top speed of 355km/h. White replaces silver as favourite car colour
By Staff Writers · 23 Oct 2013
After more than a decade as the world's favourite car colour, silver is falling in popularity to white. PPG Industries, the leading supplier of automotive paints, says 25 percent of the vehicles it supplied in the 2013 model year were white, up 3 percent from the prior year. Silver and black tied for second, with 18 percent each.White dominates in Europe, North America and Asia. Only in South America is silver still king. Apple Inc., with its all-white stores and gadgets, made white a high-tech colour. The variety of whites - from flat shades to creamy pearls - is also contributing, says Jane Harrington, PPG's manager of automotive colour styling. But if you don't relish a whiteout on the highway, never fear. Carmakers are currently scouting colours for the 2016 and 2017 model years, and Harrington is showing them some eye-popping options, from a pink-tinged bright red developed in Asia to a rich dark gray with faint green highlights.Eleven different browns - from light copper to dark chocolate - and an equal number of grays are part of PPG's annual colour show for automakers at its automotive centre in the Detroit suburb of Troy. There are six yellows and seven greens, from seafoam to dark olive. One notable absence: Powder blue, which is increasingly confined to electric cars or hybrids.Harrington and her international team determine colour trends by watching fashion, architectural paint colours and other predictors. She thinks we'll see more deep jewel tones like teal and more earthy metallics, like reddish orange, in the coming years. With the end of the recession, drivers don't mind being showy again, she saysCar buyers could also see taxi-like yellows and other flat, bright colours, which are growing in popularity thanks to small, funky entries like the Kia Soul. Pastel tones, like mint green and very light pink, are also in the mix.PPG will take its colour tour on the road to Los Angeles, Europe and Asia and will then start working with individual automakers on their choices. Companies typically choose eight to 10 colours for every model. PPG won't say how many cars it supplies paint for each year, but it works with every major car company. "They think about the vehicle and how that colour will translate," Harrington said. "That colour, sparkle and finish helps define the car's character."
