More than 14,000 Holden Captivas recalled
By Karla Pincott · 18 Dec 2013
Holden has issued a safety recall on the diesel CG Captiva for a production line fault that has seen vehicles built with their fuel feed hose touching the airconditioning suction pipe. The carmaker says that over time the fuel hose could rub against the pipe, creating a hole and the risk of a fuel leak that could catch fire. The recall notice affects 14,230 diesel Captiva 5 and Captiva 7 built February 5 2011 and November 2 2012, powered by the 2.2-litre diesel. The recall is a global one, with the two Captivas built in South Korea and sold in other markets as the Opel Antara and Chevrolet Captiva respectively.Over the recall period, Holden has sold about 20,000 Captiva 7 and 10,000 Captiva 5 models with both diesel and petrol engines.Holden says there have been some field reports related to the recall in Australia. "There have been four reported cases across Australia of a fuel smell related to the problem, but no fires or accidents," Holden spokesperson Kate Lonsdale told CarsGuide. "This is just a precautionary recall."Lonsdale said the fix would take about an hour. "We just recommend that at their earliest possible convenience owners have their vehicles inspected. The dealers are aware of the recall and will certainly prioritise those vehicles as they're brought in," she said.Holden is contacting customers, who can take their vehicles to their nearest dealer for inspection and replacement of the fuel hose if needed. This reporter is on Twitter: @KarlaPincott

Holden Commodore 2010: Faulty stability control
Answered by Graham Smith · 31 Jan 2014

No, you should keep going back to the Holden dealer and demand that they fix it. Your previous visits and any checks and repairs would be on record, so they are not starting from scratch, as another repairer would have to do. If you don't think you are getting good service, and I don't you are, escalate your complaint to Holden's customer service department.

Holden Commodore 2006: LPG problem
Answered by Carsguide.com.au · 10 Jan 2014

It's hard to suggest what might be wrong without seeing the car, so I suggest the best thing is to have an LPG specialist look at it. Give the people at Impco a call on 03 8788 1000 and ask them to check the car for you.

Holden Barina 2006: Cracked head
Answered by Graham Smith · 13 Dec 2013

No. It ran perfectly for five or six years before giving trouble, so I don't think you can blame Holden. Has the coolant been changed in the time since it left the factory, has it been overheated at any time, they're questions I would want answered before trying to find someone to blame.

2011 Calais V Series II high oil consumption
Answered by Graham Smith · 10 Jan 2014

I'm not aware that Holden has said there is a fault with the engine that causes the high oil consumption; the reaction from dealers is usually the one you got, i.e., to monitor it. Ask the dealer to monitor it themselves and if their results show high oil consumption it's much easier for you to request remedial action. I don't believe there is any difference with the VF.

Holden Commodore 2012: VE SV6 ute gear problems
Answered by Carsguide.com.au · 13 Dec 2013

Without driving your car it's hard to make a comment, but I would suggest you find other cars of the same specification and drive them. That way you'll know if it is "normal". You could also take it to a transmission specialist for an independent assessment.

2011 Series II Commodore Calais rattle noise
Answered by Graham Smith · 27 Dec 2013

It could well be a valve lifter that's draining while the car is standing and the engine not running. It might be a case of establishing which lifter is at fault and replacing it, but you need an experienced mechanic to listen to it to determine where it is coming from. If it only happens when the engine is started from cold it might be necessary to leave the car with the dealer overnight.
