Ford updated the Ranger with an update for the 2018 model year, and this isn't just because the current-generation PX model (otherwise known as the "T6") has been around for seven years. It would appear that Ford is doing the right thing by replacing the engine under warranty, so you have no complaint there. As for the other issues, on which you haven’t elaborated you should negotiate with Ford’s customer service seeking a deal that satisfies your concerns.

The 3.2-litre turbo-diesel engine in the Ranger is known for its propensity to self-destruct. It can even happen at low kilometres.

Ford has a responsibility to repair any faults found in their cars, so you do have a case for some assistance in locating the cause of the downshifting problem and fixing it to your satisfaction.
