But a couple in NSW's Riverina region are likely to remember their wedding for all the wrong reasons after the car taking them to a reception burst into flames.
The drama unfolded on Saturday afternoon in Albury, in the state's southwest. The couple, named by local media as Stephanie and Nathan Suter, were married in Albury's St Matthew's Church.On their way to the reception their car caught fire in Dean Street.
"It happened so fast, I just couldn't believe it," Ms Suter told the ABC. My husband had to actually pull me out of the car. My hair and dress were actually on fire."
The 33-year-old driver of the car was badly injured and was on Monday still being treated in the burns unit of Melbourne's Alfred Hospital. A NSW Ambulance spokesman said the man suffered burns to his hands and face.
Ms Suter suffered some minor burns and was treated at the scene for shock. The couple are still planning to go on their honeymoon in three weeks, the ABC said. It's not know why the car ignited.
