Ripples from Toyota Australia’s mid-2024 decision to move all of its hybrid-available model lines to pure hybrid continue to radiate with a price rise applied to the three-row, seven-seat Kluger hybrid as pure combustion models are officially deleted from the price list.
According to Toyota there is now a limited amount of non-hybrid stock available at dealers numbering “less than 100 nationwide”.
The move means the Kluger is now not only hybrid-only, but it becomes a pure AWD offering as front-wheel drive GX, GXL and Grande variants leave the showroom at the same time as their petrol-only AWD counterparts.
That leaves three AWD petrol-electric hybrid options in GX, GXL and Grande grades which all pick up tyre pressure monitoring, with a larger, 12.3-inch multimedia screen added to the GX and GXL (to match the Grande’s spec).
Prices have bumped up by between around $1200 to $1500 in response to the spec upgrades and external financial factors.
The Kluger Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, working in concert with three electric motor generators to send 184kW to all four wheels via a CVT auto.
Toyota’s official combined cycle (urban/extra-urban) fuel consumption figure for the Kluger Hybrid is 5.6L/100km, with recent CarsGuide testing returning average figures of between 5.8 and 6.6L/100km.

When asked about the Kluger price increases a Toyota Australia spokesperson told CarsGuide, “Toyota is committed to keeping price increases to a minimum.
“These changes came into effect recently due specification changes as well as increased costs and inflationary pressures both here and overseas,” they said.
