BMW is launching the M2 CS in Australia later this year, bringing with it improved performance and a more striking design.
Priced at $172,900 before on-road costs, the M2 CS carries a $46,600 premium over the standard M2 Coupe it shares BMW M's S58 twin-turbocharged in-line six-cylinder power plant.
In exchange for the price hike, power and torque have been upped by 37kW/50Nm to a total of 390kW/650Nm thanks to a new M-specific cooling system, as well as a map-controlled oil pump that ensures sufficient oil supply to the engine under pressure.
This is matched to an eight-speed M steptronic transmission with paddle shifters and Drivelogic (BMW's customisable transmission function), driving the rear wheels only.
BMW has reduced the M2 CS' weight by 30 kilograms over the standard M2 by incorporating more carbon-fibre reinforced plastic parts, such as the roof, rear diffuser, exterior mirror caps, the duck-tailed boot lid, carbon bucket seats and the centre console. Its exclusive M kidney grille and front splitter, both finished in Matte Black, also feature optimised air inlets.
0-100km/h sprint time has been cut from 4.0 seconds to 3.8 seconds in the CS. BMW claims it will also hit 200km/h in 11.7 seconds, which is an improvement of 1.2 seconds on the regular M2.
Top speed has been electronically-limited to 302km/h, with the exhaust note accentuated by four large titanium mufflers with electronically-controlled flaps.

BMW has lowered the M2 CS' chassis by eight millimetres for an improved centre of gravity and says it has given the car bespoke tuning for its springs, dampers and chassis control systems.
Red M compound brakes are housed by CS-specific double-spoke alloy wheels in Gold Bronze. They measure 19-inches at the front and 20-inches at the rear and may be fitted with semi-slick track or road tyres depending on customer preference.
Inside, the heated M bucket seats are distinguished by illuminated CS logos, which also feature track-ready harness points and come wrapped in merino leather. The M Alcantara steering wheel features a flat bottom, gearshift paddles, a red centre marker at 12 o'clock and two M buttons for customising the vehicle setup.
Additionally, there are red CS logos on the centre console, door sills and trims, and on the boot lid.
As standard, the M2 CS carries a curved panoramic display that features a 12.3-inch multimedia screen and a 14.9-inch gauge cluster through which the driver can access configurable drive mode, traction control and drift settings. There's also a Harmon Kardon surround-sound system, two-zone climate controls and wireless charging.
Four exterior finishes are available for the Australian market as no-cost options: Black Sapphire metallic, BMW Individual Velvet Blue metallic, M Brooklyn Grey metallic and M Portimao Blue metallic.
For an additional $19,000, customers can upgrade to carbon ceramic brakes.
Delivers of the 2025 BMW M2 CS are expected to commence before the end of 2025.
