New Fiat Ducato 2021 pricing and specs detailed: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Volkswagen Crafter rival gets update

The Ducato has a new engine under its bonnet.

Fiat Professional Australia has released the Series 7 version of the Ducato large van, with it ushering in a new turbo-diesel engine and a new automatic transmission.

The Short Wheelbase (SWB) Low Roof grade has been discontinued, meaning the Mid Wheelbase (MWB) Low Roof grade (from $46,300 plus on-road costs) is now the Ducato’s entry point, although its pricing has risen by $3310 (manual) or $3300 (automatic).

These rises also apply to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Volkswagen Crafter rival's MWB Mid Roof and Long Wheelbase (LWB) Mid Roof grades, which are priced from $48,300 and $50,300 respectively.

Meanwhile, the automatic-only Extra Long Wheelbase (XLWB) Mid Roof grade goes it alone with a $3510 price rise, from $57,500.

All Series 7 variants are motivated by a new 2.3-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine (Euro 6d compliant with an AdBlue tank), which produces 130kW of power and 400Nm (manual) or 450Nm (automatic) of torque.

A six-speed manual remains one of the transmission options for the Ducato, although its six-speed automated manual has made way for a new nine-speed torque-converter automatic from ZF.

Standard equipment in all variants now includes power-operated side mirrors, a 270-degree rear door opening, three seats, a bulkhead with a window, a 5.0-inch touchscreen Uconnect multimedia system and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.

Advanced driver-assist systems now extend to autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, cruise control, a reversing camera and rear parking sensors.

Two option packages are available range-wide, with the $2190 Comfort and Tech Pack adding LED daytime running lights, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, digital radio, climate control and tyre pressure monitoring.

The $2190 Safety Plus Pack adds foglights, all-season tyres, dusk-sensing lights, rain-sensing wipers, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and traffic sign recognition, while an additional side sliding door is a $1190 option.
