With the 40th and final LFA supercar having been built and delivered, Lexus needs a new performance hero -- and this teaser could be showing us the first glimpse of it.
Scheduled to be unveiled at Detroit motor show in January, the mystery model's single image so far reveals it bears an F badge, but also has the headlight cluster and front fender cut-line of the recently debuted RC coupe. So it looks like an RC-F coupe -- or possibly an F version of its IS sedan sibling -- is on the way.
Lexus will be keen to keep the F badge out there to build on the performance reputation they started to build with the limited-edition LFA, which Carsguide had the chance to drive again recently with a Nurburgring optional pack at Mt Fuji in Japan.
And an RC F or new IS F would show a bid to keep hunting the market currently dominated by the BMW 'M' cars, Mercedes-Benz's AMG products and Audi's RS models.
Lexus hasn't given much information with the image, except to say "the newest F model promises a bold, gritty, experience synonymous with the famed Lexus F heritage".
Whether a replacement for the IS F sedan, a new F variant of the coming RC coupe, the car is likely to carry a revised version of the carryover 5.0-litre V8, with outputs possibly raised from the 311kW of power and 505Nm of torque in the current car -- with some reports suggesting the figures could get up to 340kW and 543Nm.
However Motor Authority suggests it could also be a GS F, pointing to the car that has been testing at the Nurburgring in recent months, and be powered by a detuned version of the LFA's V10.
There's little other detail to go on, but carbon fibre is likely to be on the table for weight reduction, along with a sports suspension and Brembo brakes to keep the party in order.
