It’s what’s on the inside of the new Kia Sorento that counts. The medium-sized SUV has undergone midlife cosmetic surgery to modernize its looks and now boasts a new bumper with upright fog lights and LED running lights.
More significantly, it now has a 2.4-litre petrol engine that will go on sale alongside the 3.5-litre petrol already fitted under the hood. The new direct-injection engine is good for 141kW/242Nm and uses around 8.6L/100km.
It has been homologated for Australia but Kia Australia has yet to decide whether it has a place in the local line-up. The existing 2.2-litre diesel has had its thirst trimmed by around 0.3L/100km while still producing the same power and torque.
Interior enhancements are intended to make the seven-seater look more luxurious and include satin chrome finishes on the door handles, air-vent surrounds and switchgear, a new centre stack with a seven-inch LCD screen and extra insulation to reduce noise in the cabin.
